family camp 2.0 - AMID THE COVID-19 CRAZINESS!

ok - plan B is a go!

It'll San Diego/Imperial Beach for 2021 and that will be epic.
This year we are going about family camp a little bit differently. We get to party all day in sunny St. George and sleep in your own beds at night. Think camping without all the set up and gear...and stars...and fire...So maybe a little less like camping.

Let's keep the same week since everyone already has that blocked out.
Thursday June 18 - Saturday June 20 (HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DEREK THIS DAY!!!!!.)

It'll be different but I think we are going to have tons of fun! Jay and I are excited. Just fake it if you're not :) and...hopefully just because we are home, not in CA, everyone can still come and stay. We are hoping there will be minimal comings and goings because life is still going just a few miles away. With that said, we get that life will actually still be going a few miles away so do what you can. Just pretend you're all leaving town.

The festivities will begin Thursday morning, June 18 and go until Saturday afternoon.

Updates:

Thursday - The plan is to go up to Yankee Meadows for a boating party on the lake, hike at the lake to see where the stream that feeds it comes in and lunch someplace up there.  Then dinner in Cedar on the way home. Let's meet at 10:30AM.
Bring boats, towels, chairs/blankets to sit on - anything you want to play with there while you wait for a turn in the boats.  It may be cool - hopefully not too cool - so bring jackets in case you need them after being in the water - clothes to change after getting wet in the boats, sunscreen, hats, fishing gear if you have a license.  What else?

Friday - We will be going to Ryan's brothers cabin up near Kolob for the day. Lots of fort building, games and time in the mountains. Let's plan to meet there at 11:00 (right Ferf?) and head back down to Supe's around 4 or 5? That's not locked in but gives us a starting time.

Saturday morning - Meet at Canyon Park- west side in Cedar City for games and celebrations. Let's meet at 10:30. We will be playing lawn games and having a wee family olympics. Maybe wear good shoes for this. There is a big pavilion and a stream as well. If you have lawn games you'd like to bring, throw them in! We will have Bocci Ball, Mollki and Ladder Ball.
***Will someone bring a frisbee and soccer ball?***
We will be having cake at the park to celebrate birthdays and father's day. Let's plan to do gifts for Father's Day there as well.

Supe - why don't you invite JJ to come and join us for some of this fun.

Thanks Brynn!!!

AND WE DID IT!  FINAL REPORT IS IN!  ADD MORE PICS IF YOU WANT!

Family Camp - well, it wasn't a camp this year in the regular sense.  We didn't sleep over together in the woods or anywhere else this time.  But, we did get together with those who could, and we did have fun.  At first when we had to cancel our planned Beach Trip to CA we just thought we wouldn't do anything.  But we decided to at least attempt some time together.  We kept throwing around ideas - some could work and some couldn't because of the virus restrictions.  And we just kept amending and adapting as we went to meet the circumstances.  It's the people - not the place!  That would be our theme for this year I think!

Our final product was this:

Thursday we met at Yankee Meadows for a day in the mountains/at the lake.  Everyone who had kayaks/canoes brought them.  And the weather was cool, but not too cool for the lake and the wind didn't come up enough to create a problem.  We had picnic lunch and just relaxed and enjoyed the lake and a little bit of hiking.  That evening we went down to Cedar City and had such a yummy dinner that Lou and Juge put together in Weaver's beautiful backyard.  Some jumped on the tramp, some played volleyball, some played basketball and some just visited.  It was great!

Friday morning we met at Ryan's brother's cabin in Kolob and just hung out there for the day.  We had lunch and dinner and hiked a little.  The kids had a blast playing games and playing outside in the trees.  We celebrated Derek's birthday with cake and ice cream. It was a wonderful day too. I didn't take enough pictures though.

Using Lou's camera and Derek's set up skills we got some final pretty decent family group shots.  For the last shot Tasia got tagged to be the goat because she was "lucky" enough to be in the middle.  She was a good sport and smiled anyway!

We ended up with  being able to attend this year.  We missed Jay, Brynn, Essie and Clara, Supe and Beacher, Moss, Christie, Brenden, Eliza, Kai, Brayden and Tavin.  We had 2 dogs (Indy and Roxy) in attendance - both very well behaved!

I, for one, missed the extra time we have when we camp - the long evenings when we have time to play games, just talk and watch the kids play with cousins, cook really amazing food on Camp Chef stoves and in Dutch ovens, visiting all of the forts the kids build and are so proud of, going on some kind of camp outing without being rushed, just relaxing around camp, taking a nap in the tent, having a kids talent show.  Yes, I did miss that, but I'm thankful for what we had, and thankful that no one has gotten sick so far and that for the most part, everyone is still employed.  I'd say we are very blessed in these stressful times full of sickness and social unrest.

Special thanks go to Jay and Brynn.  Even though at the last minute they had serious things come up that made it impossible for them to attend, they worked hard to the last minute to put a plan in place for this camp...even though their turn (for the Beach Trip) kind of made this double duty for them with this year's Covid-19-craziness.
